Microsoft expects its customers to be aware of two things, namely, Windows 8 is ready for the enterprise. It has a range of products and services in order to create flexible hybrid cloud environments. This is commonly referred to as a cloud OS.
These are the two messages which the company wishes to convey at its TechED North America 2012 conference here. Some of these ideas have been observed to resonate with most customers while others expressed skepticism.
Microsoft has also proclaimed that its front end applications, while you choose to keep data which those apps are found to use at corporate sites. It is able to support moving entire virtual servers. This includes Linux servers-in as well as out of Azure.
As far as Windows 8 is concerned, its potential shift towards touch and Metro style graphics heavy app made some of the customers at the conference ponder about whether the end users who require these services be able to see enough value in order to climb the learning curve for the brand new OS.
The cloud OS framework is designed around Windows Server 2012 as well as Azure. These are endowed with significant features. The OS analogy is like this: Operating systems manage hardware and serve as the platforms upon which such applications run. A cloud OS found to manage the hardware is already scale of a data center. It is able to give the varying platforms on which such applications are expected to run.
Microsoft is of the opinion that Windows server is able to manage the physical resources. This includes getting them together from a pool of whatever resources are currently available, especially in the traditional data centers, namely, private clouds and public clouds.
As far as Azure is concerned, support has been added to virtual machines. This includes some flavors of Linux. This is able to make Azure an infrastructure-as-a-service provider and not just a platform-as-a-service provider. This allows it to shift whole virtual machines in and out of the cloud, beneath the control of Windows Server 2012.
