Windows 8 help recommends several tricks and tweaks to enhance the performance of a Windows 8 notebook.
Disable the Aero Theme
Though you may lose some soothing and good-looking features of transparency, disabling aero theme will make the Netbook more responsive and functional. Follow the steps to disable it:
- Move the mouse to the bottom left point of the screen and right-click.
- In the menu that appears, click Control Panel.
- Select Change the Theme.
- Select the Windows Basic theme.
- After the theme has changed you can close the control panel.
Adjust performance settings
According to Windows 8 help, tweaking some settings will increase the Notebook performance.
- Move the mouse to the bottom left point of the screen and right-click.
- In the menu that appears, click System.
- Select Advanced System Settings.
- In the Performance field that appears, click Settings.
- In the Visual effects tab that opens, click Adjust for best performance.
- Click Ok and close the Control Panel.
Disable System Sounds
To free up system resources, disable system sound:
- Move the mouse to the bottom left point of the screen and right-click.
- In the menu that appears, click Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel, click Hardware and Sounds.
- Select Change System Sounds.
- In the drop down menu Sound Scheme, select No sounds.
- Click OK.
Disable startup programs
Unwanted start up programs will use system resources and slow down the system. Disabling the unnecessary startup items will increase the system speed.
- Move the mouse to the bottom left point of the screen and right-click.
- From the menu that appears, click Task Manager.
- Select the tab Startup.
- Click the programs that are not necessary in the start-up list when Windows starts.
- Click on disable.
- Close this screen, the program has been disabled.
