If you are buying a new computer now or anytime till Jan 31st, you can upgrade your operating system to Windows 8 for a fee of US$14.99. Microsoft made this announcement lately. Head of Microsoft Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) division, Mr. Steve Guggenheimer was the one to make this price public for the Windows 8 upgrade. Yet the release of the operating system is not finalized; it may still take time for Microsoft to bundle up all the features and enhancement.
Though the release date is not yet certain, IT Analysts and PC makers are expecting the operating system to be shipped before the end of this year. May be the end date of the Windows 8 upgrade offer to be Jan 31 has given them the idea. Only the consumers can have the latest upgrade for that price. The upgrade is limited- one upgrade per system and five for a user.
Upgrade plan of Microsoft
Microsoft came up with this offer, as they do not want customers from holding their purchase of new PCs until the release of the
operating system. If the release of the operating system extends a bit more, it may cause serious financial issues for Microsoft and its partners. So, if the customers wait till then, be affecting the sales figures of the IT counterparts. Hence, the systems sold in this transition period- from the date of the announcement till the last date- will have the facilities like an array of coupons. These coupons are offered for free, at a subsidy or at half price upgrades, by Microsoft and computer vendors. Earlier when users were going from Vista to Windows 7, it was free.
With the announcement, Guggenheimer gave a demonstration of Windows 8, which was highlighted as the biggest update to Microsoft operating system since Windows 95, a move from 16-bit to 32-bit. From the not so user friendly 95 system, the operating system has evolved a lot to touch computing and Metro style icons, which are a popular choice for Windows phones.
Users who buy a Windows 7 PC from this June to next February, will have this offer of upgrading to Windows 8 on the same day of its release. For more details and offers, keep following our articles about Windows 8. Take care!
